My Experience as a Teacher

I am a vocalist, pianist and songwriter with an upper second class BA(Hons) Degree in Professional Musicianship. I have had years of experience learning and performing both classical and popular music styles. I started having music theory and piano lessons when I was 9 and won a scholarship to study at a Music and Art School (ATSO) in Turkey when I was 14. At this school, I had a conservatoire style music education and often performed at recitals as a solo piano player or as a choir singer. After passing my ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory I moved back to the UK to study A levels in Music, Music Technology and English Literature at the Bournemouth and Poole College.

During my time at college, I passed my ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and Grade 8 Singing exams. I then went on to study BA(Hons) Professional Musicianship, specialising in vocals at BIMM Bristol. During my years at university, I performed with many different bands as a keyboardist and as a singer. After graduating I have continued to work on advanced vocal techniques and piano skills. To this day I continue to write my own music and have gained a dedicated online following. I have performed at Harbourside Festival and at many famous music venues in Bristol such as the Fleece, Thekla and SWX. My songs have been aired on BBC Radio(Bristol), Hard Rock Hell Radio (London) and Rock Rage Radio(USA) to name but a few.

I have been teaching adults and children for 4 years. My lessons are tailored toward students' individual goals and musical interests. I encourage my students to choose their own repertoire. Students that I have prepared for graded exams and university auditions have been highly successful. I can help students work towards ABRSM or Rockschool graded exams if they wish to do so. I currently offer high-quality online lessons from my home music studio. I am also fully DBS checked for the peace of my mind for face to face lessons and for when working with younger learners.

I believe the best way to improve is to learn music that is familiar. Because of this, I recognise the importance of learning the music you love and enjoy. I will always make sure we gear towards music you are interested in during the course of your lessons to help keep you motivated and driven when it comes to overcoming the challenges we all face when learning how to sing.

If it is something that you wish to pursue, I offer graded exams through certified bodies. This is important for those wanting to do GCSE music and other courses which normally ask for a minimum of Grade 5 Music Theory. At higher levels these graded systems have UCAS points value and can actually be used to help you go on to study music as a higher academic level.

I take pride in being a friendly and relaxed teacher. I will strive to build a good relationship together where you will always feel comfortable around me. Being comfortable with your teacher is probably one of the most important aspects of learning I can think of as singing can be very daunting at first and I want you to feel comfortable in making mistakes in front of me and asking any questions you may have.
