Elizabeth Blakeslee is a tremendous teacher. Her wealth of experience in teaching young students was clear within minutes of her initial meeting with my daughter who was six at the time. She’s immensely patient and resourceful when it comes to teaching. She also makes learning fun especially for the younger students.

Not all great musicians make great teachers, but Elizabeth Blakeslee is amazing at both vocations. She has lots of practice ideas for difficult techniques, encourages beautiful musical phrasing and shaping of lines, and plans really creative, fun recitals for her students. My daughter began studying with her when she was almost 10 years old after studying piano; she loves the uniqueness of the harp. My daughter especially enjoys harp music that features unusual techniques and sounds for the harp. Mrs. Blakeslee invited her to compose and perform music for the harp, also, to encourage her musical endeavors further.

Mrs. Blakeslee is an inspiration to our child and a mentor in music and life. Her approach to teaching is gentle and firm, and she is showing our child how to work towards her dreams.

My two daughters have spent many formative years with Elizabeth Blakeslee. She is an outstanding harpist, teacher and role model whose passion for the harp and dedication to her students have enabled my daughters to not only improve steadily through the years, but also compete (and place) in state, regional and national/international competitions. Her work ethic is second to none, as she regularly goes beyond teaching to arrange master classes with world renowned harpists, plan recital and performance venues, experiment with new teaching methods, and network with other musicians to enrich her students’ experiences. She has positively impacted our lives in countless ways and we couldn’t recommend her more highly.

In my seven years of harp lessons with Mrs. Blakeslee, I have learned an incredible amount about playing solo, chamber and orchestral harp music. She taught me invaluable practice techniques which I continue to use every time I sit down to practice harp. I had many performance opportunities in her studio, ranging from recitals, to masterclasses with world renowned harpists, to the annual holiday ensemble recital, to competitions. She creates a very collaborative and friendly environment in her harp studio. Without the solid technique she instilled in me since day one, I would not be the harpist I am today.

Elizabeth Blakeslee is a master at what she does. I was lucky enough to study with her for 12 years, from ages 7 to 19. During my time with her, she taught me a solid foundation of musical technique and provided lessons that covered the essential skills of musicianship. She always challenged me to be the best I could be. She was constantly creating opportunities for her students to grow and learn, including competitions, local orchestras, festivals, workshops, masterclasses, harp ensemble, and summer camps. Mrs. Blakeslee is a teacher who truly cares about her students.
