    – Great work with this on the guitar! Complex chords! Great solo!

I emailed what we recorded today!

We can carry on next time but also think of a song for 14th Oct (we forgot to chat about this) and also the Halloween showcase!

    Brazil:
    – Great video of performance – recovered the mistake SO well, you didn’t even make a face! And an amazing fight back ad lib, SO good

    Cry Me A River:
    – Great video of performance! Very impressive. Stand closer so you’re a unit

    My One And Only Love:
    – Start working out the chords Whatsapped but check that your mum can sing it in the key of C (starting on G)

    Brazil Film:
    – Yay! Here it is:

    Brazil:
    – Keep practising that middle bit so it can be ready to film! It’s getting there!

    Paracetamol:
    – Love this! Great for the performance on Wednesday, just make sure that guitar is tuned! This would be another good one to film. An afterthought – what if you mashed this up with Brazil but you could skip the middle 8 and cut to this song, for a Declan medley… a Dedley/Decley?!

Brazil – practice middle 8 section more so that you can film it next time!
What Do I Know – or film this!

All sounding great on the electric guitar. Just be more methodical with practice – get it to a point where it sticks and you don’t have to think too much!

    Brazil:
    – LOVE this. Careful with the low notes
    – Play middle bit higher in broken chords
    – Let’s film next time!

Cry Me A River – LOVE the arrangement with your friends!

Bring back Blue Moon? Perhaps try the harmony arrangement I have if you like?

    – Change the Am to Amadd2 so it matches the melody
    – End bit: “I’m left on my own”
    – Build the story of the first verse (current verse becomes 2nd verse)
    – Things we used to do together, how good it used to be
    – Middle 8: How it’s left you both afterwards?!

    Middle 8:
    C Dm7 Am G
    C Dm7 Am G7

    Songs:
    – Dive – one man band – nice vid! Keep going with it but make sure you don’t speed up the hi hat
    – What Do I Know – 6th fret – Bb – sounds more comfortable in the lower range here
    – Brazil – Go up a key or 2 and use more of your range and sing clear, strong notes at in the chorus. Be careful about crouching over the guitar. Tactical breathing!
    – Decide on what to work on next week

GCSE Composition (1.30 mins, theme song, Detective):
    – C blues moving to G! Very clever… see if the teacher is okay with you not resolving back to C, don’t see why as the hook is still recognised in the new key!
    – Chords: Shifts to Gm/D then C then G Am7 D

    Blue Moon:
    – Bring your chord sheet next time
    – Practice shifting from the F#m to the Bm

    30.10.17

GCSE Solo Performance – House Of The Rising Sun:

    – Go for it on the high notes e.g. “been the ruin” and “suitcase”
    – Soften the low notes so they don’t go too high
    – 3 note runs on words like “tailor” or “needs”
    – Careful with slide on “done”
    – “Spent your lives” find the right power
    – Final verse: “It’s been the ruin” go higher! (3 steps)

I LOVE what you’ve done with this. So soulful and great ability with runs! Well expressed – really advanced take on this song.

This is all the making of you!

    Bat Out Of Hell:
    – Great start to this
    – Write chord sheet up (just listen to basic chord movements) then play as backward arpeggios SLOWLY (separately to the music)

    Start a Youtube channel:
    – Love your writing style – you should definitely share this with the world – you’re great!
    – Put song up that you’re pleased with (check with your mum)

    Rockstar:
    – Great work with the piano!

    Lower piano with band:
    – Ab/C C# Fm Eb (keeping hook as the highest note and not pulsing the same rhythm as before)
    – Normal Fm and Eb second time round
    – Practice left hand and right hand octave bit in the chorus, with half time Ab pulsing!
    – SLOW DOWN!

Great piano sonata, keep the classics coming!

    Fur Elise:
    – Great work learning this by ear. Just add those G#s in the right (and left!) hand when you’re at the E!

    Rockstar:
    – Lots of careful piano learning here! Just sort the right hand bit out, keeping the thumb pulsing on the Ab, but not all the time! Take it slow.
    – Add in left hand when the right hand is sorted!
    – See Whatsapp video for further guidance!
