    Harmony Warm Ups:
    – Great work and thanks for introducing Justine

    Glitter & Gold:
    – Great work sorting out the round section. Time to learn the final section!
    – Songs for open mic / showcase: Glitter & Gold & Gimme Shelter, Glitter & Gold being the priority

Keep learning – parts to be sent soon! I’ll warn you I have a crazy week ahead so I’ll get them to you when I can…

    Glitter & Gold:
    – Great work catching up Anna!
    – Got more of an idea of the round now: Middle, then high, then low harmony!

    Gimme Shelter:
    – Great work doing most of this! Here are the parts below to learn from:

    Warm Ups:
    – Great Bella Senora arpeggio harmonies with 7ths and minor chords too!

    Glitter & Gold:
    – Great work with continuing this today – here is your recording so far (a version all together where I’ve doubled the choruses up so you can hear nearly all sections – just one left to work out!) plus separated parts (with the view to change a few of the notes in the round – have a think about this!)
    – Anna: You can either add your own harmony to this, which would be nice, or share a note with someone else!

    Hide & Seek:
    – Good work on gradually putting the parts together (emailed them so far)
    – Lyric doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1f78wbQvpmXvgK3SCtosgYmoDqMLmLqTQyTEAWLQa1rU/edit?usp=sharing

    – Keep listening and adding ideas to the video below – sounding really great!

    Lorna & Anna:
    – Great work with “No More Tears” today!
    – Great connection between the 2 of you and amazing blend!
    – Keep working on timing in places, and get that ending nice and confident!

    Hide & Seek:
    – Great work starting this – hopefully it’s not too much of a difficult start!

    7.7.18

    Warm Ups:
    – Semitonal chords – very nice! Moving together gradually through the chords in semitones, then back down again

    Hide & Seek:
    – Ran through first few lines with Lorna, sounding good!
    – Learn rhythm from original or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDghE74HRWs

Glitter & Gold (High key of Fm)

    – Low: Sharon & Katy
    – Middle: Anna & Jess
    – High: Lorna
    – “Ting ting” on clicks?

3 sections and lots of opportunity for back and forth, call and response and polyphony!

    23.6.18

In The Air Tonight (Factory Studios Practice):
    – Great work with mic technique in the practice room today!
    – Lorna and Jess: Keep your unison singing as synchronised as possible and don’t be shy to have your mouth close to the mic for the low notes. Careful with the final low note at the end – don’t push too much so that it wavers
    – Sharon: Make sure you’re close to the mic too, as you’re holding a part on your own! And very well I might add!
    – Anna & Katy: Not too close to mics as soprano can be the loudest – you balanced this very well in the video
    – Great work with dynamics, slowly building up as the music increased in volume!
    – Great video recording: see Whatsapp! Let me know if I can share it!
    – Showcase: Remember to inform the sound engineer at sound check if you need more/less in your monitors

    Great work Power Arrangers!!!

    9.6.18

    Hide & Seek:
    – Played around with low harmony ideas with Lorna on piano
    – Lorna – perhaps make backing track that we can use in Factory Studios next time?

    Tried out new ideas:
Glitter & Gold / Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive – lots of fun!

    In The Air Tonight:
    – Great run through – think about dynamics
    – Lorna, run through ad lib at the end, plus final softer note

    Up next:
    Glitter & Gold
    Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive

    Upbeat Song Ideas:
    Raise The Roof
    Give Me Shelter
    The Cup Song
    Hold On
    Spice Girls

    Updated lyric doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kYOoI3et1RK6r-6sYIDLdfRhzNsOcAuTgADj0tO09wU/edit?usp=sharing

    – Keep going over “but I know the reason” careful melody singers – be exactly together here

    Hide & Seek:
    – Start listening to the below and singing along with some harmonies

And for a live version, to see how she does it:

    More Than Words:
    – Great work with the chorus! Here is your recording from today:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7sADbsOypE (unlisted, not public!)

    – Lyric doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1H11xQ-eb6fiTIi4ymb3yBfASIOevNH4hTS9aMmWrlek/edit?usp=sharing

    In The Air Tonight:
    – Great work completing!!! Sounds amazing, excellent work on this today
    – I have emailed you a few backing tracks to sing to in the new higher key of Ebm! Be aware that the gaps are longer because they fit exactly with the original – so time it! Have included a vocal version too, to aid you (plus you can sing along with your harmony!)

    21.4.18

    Warm Ups:
    – 9 note number scale round – tricky with just 3 but great work – let’s keep working on this slowly

    In The Air Tonight:
    – Great work doing this a cappella and also getting further along with it (up to “But I know the reason why you keep your silence up,”) keep going – but careful with “but I know the reason”
    – Updated parts below plus piano. I have also included an alto + melody version for mezzos to practice finding the harmony in between!

    More Than Words:
    – Low harmony for Katy to try, like in the original below:

    – Arpeggio Harmonies (.e.g. “show me how you feel”) is a good warm up harmony technique on its own!
    – Just sing along to it and see what you can pick out/add to it 🙂 Lorna was trying a high harmony which was nice

Toxic is brilliant! I’ve done it with Chicapella too!

    Found an instrumental too:

With regards to Lorna’s ideas, I love the idea of Hide & Seek – always wanted to try it. Mega hard! We could probably do that later on when we are all more experienced (including me!)

Love how rocky you’ve gone, Lorna! And country too!

Like Waiting For A Star To Fall and On the Street Where You Live

Also what do you think of doing Dreams, by The Cranberries? Nice tribute to the singer too 🙂

    Also some Fleetwood Mac?

I would also LOVE to do this song:

Tempted to push this one forward next…

By all means do some arranging in your own time 🙂

    Hi girls!

Congratulations on a fantastic first harmony group workshop. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you did too. I look forward to pub action after next time, if you’re free!

    Warm Ups:
    – Vowel scales, assessing range
    – 9 note number scale as a round
    – 3 part harmony scales

    Song: In The Air Tonight:
    – Here’s the original for those that didn’t know it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkADj0TPrJA
    – Parts: Altos (Melody) – Jess & Katie, Mezzos – Sharon & Lorna, Sopranos – Anna & Katy
    – Got you to guess the parts then listen and repeat
    – The harmonies are very close and move almost in parallel all the way through

You did fantastically well picking this up (but I knew you had the skills!!) and are already half way through the song!

    Song parts:

    (Hope you like the name?!)

    See you on 21st April!

    Eliza
