    From survey:
    – Music Theory
    – Grades (8!)

Check out the vocal syllabus for grades here: https://www.rslawards.com/rockschool/graded-exams/vocals/

Who’s Loving You for hospital gig – confirmed – this is what one of the piano students wanted to learn anyway!

    Grade 8 Theory:
    – Natural Minor scale (flatten 3rd, 6th and 7th notes)
    – Dominant 7th: Tone below the octave (out of the scale)
    – Major 7th: Semitone below octave

    Love On The Brain:
    – Great first recording! I emailed it to you; have a listen and work on making those runs really clear

Thanks for the backing track – the click is very helpful!

I’ve found this incredible song by Judith Hill called ‘Cry Cry Cry’. Let me know what you think as I can see myself doing a project with it!

    I Say A Little Prayer:
    – Great practice for your higher voice staying high! Try belting after a decent warm up, switching to head voice on “my” then back to chest voice for “and I”

I Heard It Through The Grapevine:
    – Spend time going through that rhythm carefully and slowly – use the slower piano track with click I emailed
    – Don’t forget that run on “lose”!
    – Watch the “oh”s coming in on different beats/half beats
    – Sounding great already though!

Sorry we will record Love On The Brain next time!!!

    New Song List:
    – Love On The Brain – sounded amazing – let’s record next time!
    – I Wish – to record later on
    – Song For You – love the sound of this! Very you!
    – Say A Little Prayer / Chain Of Fools – Say A Little Prayer works in the much lower and more comfortable key of Ebm – use the backing track below
    – Lady Marmalade – push yourself to that high belt/mixed voice
    – En Vogue – My Lovin’ (A Cappella) – love this a cappella section as a recording idea!
    – Fallin’ / If I Ain’t Got You – Fallin’ sounds great, especially when you add some more cheeky runs here and there!
    – Feeling Good – a good one to study jazz-wise
    – I Heard It Through The Grapevine – perfect for rhythm and getting the general syncopated groove – worth a project! TONNES of harmonies too!

Think of an upbeat song you’d like to perform on 14th October!

    Music Listening Homework!:
    – Aretha Franklin – Ain’t No Way & Border Song
    – Etta James – I’d Rather Go Blind
    – Otis Redding – I’ve Been Loving You Too Long
    – Sam Cooke / Aretha – A Change Is Gonna Come
    – Al Green
    – Eva Cassidy

I’ve booked band practice for Thursday evenings in September so let me know if you want to come to one!

    Stevie Mashup:
    – Great work on this today! Don’t rush ahead – sing with the metronome below, plus updated version without the click
    – Also below is your vocal version, great start! Have a listen to where you may have rushed
    – Perhaps leave I Wish verse out and just end it after the chorus? The song will still be long enough and I Wish will sound great as a full track with the proper backing!
    – Loving the high vocal idea in the chorus of I Wish – just work on smoothing that out!

    OK done! Here it is:

Edited doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jNPxJt5P2mkRJqmC0wpnw2VQDYPMpVv_mvz3NzLXWbQ/edit?usp=sharing (you can sing a different verse if you like!)

I cut it short deliberately so that your a cappella bit could be the last “do do do-do do”

Hope it works! We need the bass line in the verse really but we can sort that out next time!

    Hi, hope you’re well!

With exams, I’ve only just had time to properly sing with the recording the whole way through today and I don’t think there’s the piano for the last verse of I Wish. Do you still think it’s possible to include?

Thanks again though, it sounds really good!

Stevie Mashup – the WONDERful mashup 😉

Great work today! Your voice rocks with this so much!

Okay this took aaaaaages but it was worth it because I think my piano jazz theory has much improved!

Sing to the below and use the lyric doc below. Be aware that there is NO gap between If You Really Love Me, For Once In My Life and Signed Sealed Delivered!

Hope it makes sense, let me know if there are any problems!
