    Helplessness Blues:
    – So I’ve sent you the track so far with new middle 8 AND click to help you practice if you want to have a go, but please don’t drive yourself mad over it as it isn’t easy (and I’ve swung the piano so that will take time to get used to!)

Now, don’t be helplessly blue yourself. Because this doesn’t help anyone.

Did a sing through at Factory this morning with some 3rd harmony applied to the first verse and chorus. (Interesting)! Am about to email it to you.

Presumably by ‘middle 8’ chords you mean the ‘Orchard’ section.

One day we should try and work on a song where the middle 8 is somewhere in the middle – and not at the end!

    Helplessness Blues
    – Much smoother
    – Breathing is much better
    – Work on losing the swoops when descending in a melody
    – Middle 8 chords nearly there so we will tackle that next time!

    Warm Ups:
    – Descending scales & arpeggios – glide rather than clump to get rid of the swoop
    – Ascending the same as descending

    Helplessness Blues:
    – Go over verse 3
    – Work on breathing
    – Practice to the below

    Warm Ups:
    – Slides with minimal sounds before full voice warm up

    Helplessness Blues:
    – Beautiful for your voice! Better in C# (1 tone lower)
    – Only primary chords (1 4 and 5) are used while the root bass note is held for that folky feel!
    – Timing is very interesting! A couple of cheeky 2 bars before and during the chorus!

    In My Room:
    – Great work going through this with me! Tricky… but you did it!
    – We shall be changing the end!

    For The Longest Time:
    – Great work going through this in different ways – so just the last key sent to everyone, in the lower octave, then higher octave in the B Section! Practice the change between sections!

    For The Longest Time:
    – REALLY well learnt!
    – Sing lowered key an octave lower, then jump to higher octave for the B Section

    3am:
    – Don’t worry about speed for now, just practice the melody to the chord structure emailed – think about how you might want to edit the pace (if you do)

    3am:
    – Finished song!
    – Wacky end of 3rd verse idea (listen back, see if you’re keen!)
    – Next time we’ll tidy up melody and record all the chords
    – Harpsichord and Honky Tonk piano might be a fun way to go with this sound-wise

I noticed that at the start of the Without Time backing track that you emailed to me yesterday – The piano line has lost its fade in (it used to emerge slowly out of the clock ticks).

Despite that I enjoyed singing with it at Factory this morning!

I did another zoom ‘live mix’. – I’ll send it to you.

Also, I’ll ring Dan this week to see if he’s up for coming on board with it…..
