My Mission

Students of All Ages and Abilities Welcome

I have been teaching the drums for a while now, and in this time I have worked with students across a broad spectrum of skill levels and abilities. This includes both beginners students and more advanced drum players who are just looking to take their current skills on to that next level. No matter what level you are at, my lessons are suitable for all.

The tuition provided is tailored to the specific needs of each individual student that I work with and as such I will always make sure you are learning and studying material by the artists or styles that you love the most. I find this is the best way to help people motivated and driven to practice and overcome those challenges that we all face when learning an instrument.

My Lessons

Experienced Teacher

I am a freelance musician and music tutor who works in Birmingham and the surrounding areas and I specialise in drums and percussion instruments. I also perform music alongside my teaching and I primarily perform Jazz/Improvised music but I also have vast experience playing and performing in many other styles and genres.

I find it's never really too early or too late to start learning drums and I currently work with all students from the ages 6+. I tend to recommend 30 minute lessons for the younger learners as this helps to keep their attention span, but most adult learners tend to take one 60 minute lesson per week to ensure the most consistent development and progress.

£15 per 1/2 hour
£30 per hour

Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.

My Experience as a Teacher

I currently hold the following musical qualifications: Batchelor of Music (Jazz) from Birmingham Conservatoire, A Level Music, Grade 8 Drum Kit with distinction and a Full DBS (CRB) certificate. In order to obtain these qualifications I have had to push my own playing ability to the highest level and I am now ready to share these skills with you.

Alongside my Drum teaching I have also been playing and performing in many different bands since a very young age. This has allowed me to become comfortable and fluent when playing in all different styles of music. Together we will identify your weak areas and make sure that we help get you to that next step, all the while having fun along the way.

I try my best to keep the lessons as relaxed and informative as possible. For me one of the most important things when learning an instrument is to stay motivated and driven. A lack of inspiration can sometimes be a difficult thing to overcome, so I will never apply too much pressure on you, ensuring you learn at a comfortable pace that you are happy with.

My main teaching method is a holistic approach, allowing you to grow as a musician and organically discover new things for yourself by learning from real music examples. I am happy to cover any music from any style that you wish to study combined with technical exercises to help you improve on those weaker areas.

The aim of my lessons is to provide you with all of the technical knowledge and practical skills which allow you to play whatever style you want. Developing correct fundamental skills is crucial for helping you to grow in to a better musician and as such you will be better equipped for real life playing situations.

I try to also offer music theory content in my lessons as this is something often overlooked by musicians. Not only does learning this actually have huge benefits, such as allowing you to become better at your instrument, make smarter musical choices etc, but it also allows you to progress and develop as an all round musician in general.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do lessons cost?

Lessons are £15 for half an hours tuition or £30 for an hours tuition.

Where do the lessons take place?

Lessons can take place at my home address in Floodgate, Birmingham, B5 5SR if necessary (full address would be provided upon booking your first lesson). I am also a mobile teacher who is happy to travel to you for the lessons within a reasonable distance.

What ages do you teach?

I teach students of all ages 6+.

Do I have to attend lessons every week?

No you can attend lessons as and when you like. I would recommend one hour a week for the most consistent progress.

What happens if I have to cancel a lesson?

Any lessons cancelled within 48 hours can still be charged for. I am happy to reschedule cancelled lessons where possible.

I currently take the majority of my lessons from my home teaching studio on Floodgate, Birmingham, B5 5SR. I feel this is a great place to learn because as well as having all the essential equipment. I also offer mobile lessons, meaning I am happy to travel to you and you never have to leave the comfort of your own home. No worries about traffic, parking or having to find the place.
