Expert Drum Teacher
Based in Glasgow

Hello! I'm Gary Gilmour, a professional drum teacher based in Glasgow.
I offer Drum Lessons to students of all ages and abilities.

Gary Gilmour

I have been teaching drums professionally for a number of years and am an active performer with established function bands and touring artists.

My drum lessons are available for students of any ability aged 7 upwards. You do not need any prior knowledge or playing experience.

I teach all genres of music, so you can learn to play the drums to songs you love. I want your lessons to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

I take a lot of my lessons from designated teaching studios in and around Glasgow, but I am able to offer mobile teaching if you prefer.

What my students say

& why they love my drum lessons

Susan Leonard

'My 11-year-old boy attends drum lessons with Gary. He is extremely shy but thanks to Gary's patience, my son can now read music and is learning to play the drums confidently. Wouldn't go to any other drum teacher. Highly recommend.'

About Your New
Drum Teacher

Friendly, helpful and focused on helping you learn how to play the drums.

I have 5 years experience as a teacher and have a diploma in music performance, but I also play a lot of live music. I perform professionally with function bands and touring acts and have a lot of fun doing so!

I have a simple goal for my students: to make sure you enjoy your lessons. We will learn to play the drums to music you love and we will have a laugh at the same time. I believe the more fun you have, the better you learn.

Whilst fun is the main focus of my teaching, it is also important that you have a good solid grounding in theory and technique. I will be able to identify your specific needs & areas for improvement, and tailor my lessons to suit.

As a teacher, my ultimate goal is to see you achieve the goals you set yourself in music. Whether this be learning graded exams or just playing casually to music you love, I would be more than happy to play a part in your journey.

Location of Lessons

I teach the majority of my lessons from my studio on Grayshill Rd, Cumbernauld, Glasgow, G68 9HQ. This is a great place to learn to play as it is a relaxed and calm environment. I also have all the necessary equipment for my lessons on site.

The studio is easily accessible by bus by taking the X3 from Cumbernauld and alighting at Westfield Rd. My full address will be disclosed on booking.

I am also able to offer mobile teaching for students that prefer to learn at home or elsewhere provided the premise is adequate. If this is the case for you please let me know.

Local Drum Teacher Tips:

Drum Shops in Glasgow:

Glasgow is a lively city that has no shortage of music shops and specialist drum shops. This is great for anyone looking to get started on the drums as you can quite easily get your hands on the kit you need. Here's a short list of some of my favourite locations:

Drummers Only are a drum specialist located at 31-33 Commerce Street, G5 8AB. They have a very good reputation and have pretty much everything you'll ever need as a drummer. Drummers Only also stock a lot of pre-owned kit so there are good opportunities to pick up items at a reduced price.

Drum Shop Glasgow is another drum specialist in the city located at 15 Blackie Street, G3 8TN. The shop itself is quite small but is filled to the roof with products. Staff here have a good reputation for being friendly & knowledgeable of the products they stock, so if you have any queries as to which product is the best for you, they'll be able to help you out.

Kenny's Music Glasgow is located at 61-63 Jamaica Street, G1 4NN, an easy 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central Station. Kenny's Music is a good place to pick up electric drum kits and their accessories.

Music & Performance Courses in Glasgow:

Many students enjoy playing the drums as a hobby, but some students may develop a passion for percussion. For those looking to take their drumming and performance to another level, it may be worth looking at some of the courses available in Glasgow:

Glasgow Clyde College offer a two-year live performance-based HND in Music. This type of course is a good stepping stone to entry on advanced music degree programmes and provides a wide range of training to those looking to pursue a career in the music industry.

The University of Glasgow offer a 3- or 4-year course to those interested in pursuing a career in music. The programme involves study in performance, orchestration, techniques and composition, as well as providing a choice of optional modules for you to tailor your study in a way that best suits you.

Academy of Music & Sound Glasgow offer courses at different levels of qualification, from short courses all the way up to Masters degrees. They offer specialist music performance and production education to prepare you for a career in the music industry, and boast the likes of Primal Scream and CHVRCHES as alumni!
