Jack Smith

I have been teaching professionally now for many years as well as performing all over Europe and the UK.

My drum lessons are available for students of any ability aged 10 and upwards. You do not need any prior knowledge or playing experience.

I think it is very important that we pursue learning the music that you love to listen too. This way you will see great progress in a short space of time.

I personally love all styles of music and this reflects in my teaching. I will make sure we learn the styles and genres that you want to learn.

I only offer one-hour lessons as I feel this really gives us enough time to focus on all aspects of your drumming. Usually, one lesson per week is enough to see some fast progress as long as you are practising at home.

About Your New
Drum Teacher

Friendly, helpful and focused on helping you learn how to play the drums.

I have been performing live and teaching for as long as I can remember. I initially started in a pipe band learning to drum and then branched out to other genres and styles from there. I will use this experience to make sure you really get the most out of your lessons.

I have a simple goal for my students: to make sure you enjoy your lessons. We will learn to play the drums to music you love and we will have a laugh at the same time. I believe the more fun you have, the better you learn.

We will always work at a pace that suits you, learn the music you enjoy & gear towards anything you want to learn. I can teach a wide range of genres, Graded exams and even help you with your music exams at school.

As a teacher, my ultimate goal is to see you achieve the goals you set yourself in music. Whether this is learning graded exams or just playing casually to music you love, I am excited to show you the correct technique and playing style to achieve anything.

Local Drum Teacher Tips:

Drum Shops in Glasgow:

Glasgow is a lively city that has no shortage of music shops and specialist drum shops. This is great for anyone looking to get started on the drums as you can quite easily get your hands on the kit you need. Here's a short list of some of my favourite locations:

Drummers Only are a drum specialist located at 31-33 Commerce Street, G5 8AB. They have a very good reputation and have pretty much everything you'll ever need as a drummer. Drummers Only also stock a lot of pre-owned kits so there are good opportunities to pick up items at a reduced price.

Drum Shop Glasgow is another drum specialist in the city located at 15 Blackie Street, G3 8TN. The shop itself is quite small but is filled to the roof with products. The staff here have a good reputation for being friendly & knowledgeable of the products they stock, so if you have any queries as to which product is the best for you, they'll be able to help you out.

Kenny's Music Glasgow is located at 61-63 Jamaica Street, G1 4NN, an easy 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central Station. Kenny's Music is a good place to pick up electric drum kits and their accessories.

Music & Performance Courses in Glasgow:

Many students enjoy playing the drums as a hobby, but some students may develop a passion for percussion. For those looking to take their drumming and performance to another level, it may be worth looking at some of the courses available in Glasgow:

Glasgow Clyde College offer a two-year live performance-based HND in Music. This type, of course, is a good stepping stone to entry on advanced music degree programmes and provides a wide range of training to those looking to pursue a career in the music industry.

The University of Glasgow offer a 3- or 4-year course to those interested in pursuing a career in music. The programme involves study in performance, orchestration, techniques and composition, as well as providing a choice of optional modules for you to tailor your study in a way that best suits you.

Academy of Music & Sound Glasgow offers courses at different levels of qualification, from short courses all the way up to Masters degrees. They offer specialist music performance and production education to prepare you for a career in the music industry, and boast the likes of Primal Scream and CHVRCHES as alumni!
