I have a holistic approach to teaching the guitar. This means that I am keen to work on all areas of guitar playing, from improving rhymic timing to working on exercises that improve finger speed and strength. My aim is to help my student reach their own guitar playing potential, focusing them on achieving their personal aims for the guitar – whether that is playing a song at an open mic night or simply learning for their own pleasure.
My lessons are fun, engaging and tailored to each one of my students. I work hard to ensure that my students learn to play the guitar through playing the music that they like. Afterall, I want my pupils to practice at home between our lessons. Over the years I have taught I have developed core courses of lessons to aid students at different levels of playing the guitar. For example, for beginner students, I work with them to ensure that they rapidly learn the basics of the guitar; essentially being able to play open chords, with simple strum patterns, as well as a few lead riffs. It sounds simple, but building up the technical ability to achieve this can take several months – everything from how to hold the plectrum to gaining the strength in your fingers needed to play the chord has to be learned.
Yet, it is a very achievable aim for learners young and old – even if they have no prior guitar or musical background. I have had a lot of success teaching beginner students over the years and would be delighted to teach you to play the guitar if you are a beginner student.
I also offer guitar lessons in Leeds for intermediate and more advanced guitarist. These lessons will explore areas of weakness in your playing, building courses of lessons to help you rapidly improve. Most importantly, I focus on helping these students re-engage with their practising – which has often become stale and repetitive. By re-invigorating their practice regime the students are able to see progress again in their playing.
I charge £15 per half hour / £28 per hour lesson, offering lessons during weekday afternoons and evenings. I work hard to try and fit in as many students as I am able to during the week. To book your first lesson don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing [email protected].
