About Guitar Lessons Southampton

Charlie English, a guitar teacher at Guitar Lessons Southampton
Charlie English is a professional guitar tutor teach a whole range of styles to students in Southampton.

Welcome to Guitar Lessons Southampton! My name is Charlie English. I am a professional guitar teacher offering high-quality lessons based in Southampton. I teach most of my lessons from my home teaching space on University Road. It is a perfect place to learn the guitar with good transport links across the city.

Here is a quick summary of my lessons:

  • Ages 7+
  • £12.50 half hour/£25 per hour
  • All Styles Taught
  • Electric and acoustic both taught

I am a qualified guitar teacher having achieved both Grade 8 in guitar and in Music theory. I’m currently studying a degree in music specialising in Jazz fusion guitar performance. As well as the previously mentioned I also have plenty of experience performing live as part of a band.

I have a very simple approach to teaching guitar. That is to teach you what you want to learn. Together we will asses your goals and find a way that we can achieve them whilst learning the music you love. However, I will also make sure we do so without missing out all the important basic aspects of understanding and learning the guitar.

Beginner students are more than welcome to take lessons with me. In fact, I actually have a lot of experience in creating personalised lesson plans for beginners. Alternatively, if you are a more advanced guitarist or have found yourself stuck in a rut. I can also help you find a way to progress and reach the level you have always wanted to reach.

Lessons & Costs

My lessons are built around you. I want every student to be learning what they want to learn. In terms of content, as explained already, this is dependant on what the student wants to learn. If you just want to learn a few chords for an occasion or want to become the next Hendrix I can definitely help you achieve either. I like to make sure we also have a good grounding in music theory so that you can understand what you are learning. It is also possible to learn graded exams if this is a route you wish to go down.

I welcome students of all abilities. I specialise in teaching beginner guitarists & helping them get a good foothold in guitar playing. However, I can also help a more experienced guitarist get the best out of their playing or perhaps get past that common “rut” many experienced guitarists get stuck in.

In addition, I have taught music theory for many years. Drawing on my music degree from the University of Southampton where specialised in composition, songwriting and jazz theory/performance. Alongside this I have also received a merit at Grade 8 in Music Theory and can teach up to Grade 5 from both ARBSM and Trinity. I aim to make lessons practical and apply them to your everyday music making, whether that be to improvisation, composition, song writing or even just to pieces you are learning.

I charge £12.50 per half hour/£25 per hour for guitar lessons or music theory tuition taught at my home teaching space on University Road. To find out more about my lessons or if you have any questions please email me at [email protected]
