Lessons are pay-as-you-go, weekly, fortnightly or as suits you.
I welcome both beginner and advanced players to learn with me. My lessons are built around your ability level.
I am a multi-instrumentalist who holds a 1st class degree in popular music and a MA in music therapy. I have years of working with children in a variety of contexts. My approach to music-making and teaching centers around the relationship and joint music-making. Music is learned through interaction and being challenged by a mentor.
Electric and acoustic guitars are my first instruments, yet I can also play and teach the piano and have experience as a trumpet player in orchestras, brass bands, wind bands and big bands.
As well as a vast amount of experience in teaching adults and children I also have experience working directly with children who have learning difficulties, ASD and behavioral problems.
My proudest moment as a music teacher was working with a group of Year 6 students in a special needs school. Together we wrote and performed a song that expressed their excitement and fears about leaving primary school and heading to secondary school. Witnessed a group of young students engaging in the creative process and taking ownership of their own creation was what every music teacher hopes to see during their career.
I can adapt and change my style to fit the student and will always build my lessons around my students ability level and goals as a learner. My lessons are always professional and are carried out in a way that you can enjoy.
I have been a part of many musical ensembles, choirs, orchestras, wind bands, big bands, brass bands, rock groups, and the duo's from a very young age. This is something I can use to help my students build confidence in their ability level.
Edinburgh has a couple of shops that are dedicated to piano players. Here are the stores I would recommend if you're looking for a specialist.
