Hello! I'm Philippa Simon, a professional piano teacher based in Oxford.
I offer enjoyable Piano and Keyboard lessons in Oxford.

Philippa Simon

I will personalise the lessons to include the music and genres that you love as well as making sure we learn all the essential theory.

I cater for all ages and have a host of experience in teaching students of all ages. I would however recommend starting no younger than 5. .

I love all styles of music & this is reflected in my teaching style. I will always teach you the music that you love.

Its very common for more advanced players to get stuck in a rut with their playing. If this sounds familiar then I would love to help you get back on track with your playing.

1/2 Hour Lessons

£18

I recommend my half hour lessons mostly for younger learners. I believe that younger learners benefit from short lessons that are enjoyable and to the point. Obviously, if you are an adult and would prefer a 30 min lesson then this can also be arranged as I believe that some people prefer to learn little and often.

1 Hour Lessons

£30

I would recommend my hour-long lessons as they seem to be the most common and popular choice amongst all of my students. I feel one-hour long lesson per week is enough to see some real progress over a few months. This length of lesson is well suited to students who really want to see some good progress over a few months.

Angela

'Philippa is calm, considerate and enthusiastic and my (14-year-old) son is really enjoying his lessons with her. Being home educators she took the time to look at the best route for IGCSEs and we are very happy to be working with her.'

About Your New
Piano Teacher

Friendly, helpful and focused on helping you to rapidly learn how to play the piano.

I am an experienced teacher who as well as teaching for a number of years has achieved a BMus (specialising in Cello), A Level Music, ABRSM Grade 8 Cello, ABRSM Grade 8 Piano, ABRSM Grade 8 Singing, ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory.

I like to make sure that all of my lessons are enjoyable as the best way to see progress in playing is to enjoy your lessons. Make sure to let me know what music you enjoy so I can include this in your lessons.

For more focused students, I am able to offer lessons to prepare for ABRSM exams (grades 1 to 5); however this is not compulsory, and many of my students simply like learning to play the piano for their own pleasure.

For younger students, learning is approached in a fun and engaging way. Alongside technical grounding on the piano itself, a variety of musical games and activities are included in the lessons.

Local Piano Teacher Tips:

Piano Shops in Oxford:

Oxford has a rich history of music and liver performance and this is still something that can be experienced today. If you are looking to get started as a musician then there are plenty of music shops to chose from. here are my favourites.

If you are looking for an all-round music shop then PMT Oxford is a great option to go too. They have a great selection of guitars and other instruments and the staff are always very warm and accommodating. They can be found on 381 Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 2BS.

The Music Box is a small independent music store that has everything from flutes to acoustic guitars and everything in between. They can be found on 53A Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1HP. I would also recommend this place if you are looking for a repair.

Lastly if you are looking for a shop that specialises more in classical instruments then Allegro Ltd id your best bet. They can be found on 404 Marston Rd, Oxford OX3 0JE and have an amazing stock of pianos and woodwind instruments.

Music Courses in Oxford:

For many advanced pianists exploring whether higher education is the right next step is really important. Especially those looking to develop careers as professional musicians. Thankfully Oxford has some fantastic music courses available for pianists and musicians.

For example, the University of Oxford offers a three year Music BA course, with a detailed history of music as part of the course. Indeed, music has been taught at the University of Oxford for over 800 years. With the music department being one of the leading the country.

Oxford Brookes University also offers a BA in Music, broken into 3 years as a full-time student or 5 years as a part-time student.

For younger students, the Popular Music Level 2 Diploma and the Music Performance and Production Level 3 Extended Diploma offer by the City of Oxford College is well worth exploring. Both are full-time courses and are ideal first steps on the route to higher education courses.
