Hi, my name is Vasilis Socratous and I am a seasoned pianist with many years of teaching experience. I have toured internationally and have taught hundreds of students through educational institutes and privately.
The piano is an extremely diverse instrument and I have always enjoyed teaching it's various playing styles. My students are educated in classical, pop, jazz and many contemporary styles so that no matter what your specific musical interests, our lessons will keep you excited and encouraged to push forward.
I am proud to note key educational achievements of my own that include receiving a piano diploma with honours from the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, graduating from the University of Macedonia receiving a bachelor's degree in chamber music and continuation of my postgraduate studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Throughout my time in education, I picked up many teaching methods and processes from world renowned specialists that I now apply within my own lessons. I am a proud alum of the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, University of Macedonia and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
I have also taught for numerous institutes, some of which include Burton Yamaha Music School, the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, Giannitsa Music Lab and many others.
As a teacher, I have become adept in identifying the subtle habits of pianists which help me to guide students towards better technique and musicality in a positive, and encouraging manner. It is the little things that set us apart as players, and I ensure learners make the most out of their practice time by instilling skills and routines that will help bolster their ability to express.

Students of mine benefit from logically laid out and meticulously planned lessons, which aim to provide the utmost efficiency and progress during practice time outside of lessons. My goal is always to help get students further, quicker in their playing.
Though my lessons are planned strategically, they are always presented in a positive and relaxed manner. Learning a musical instrument should be an exciting experience for all, regardless of age or skill level, so it is my priority that all students are kept enthused and intrigued from lesson to lesson!
Their is no such thing as 'one method fits all' when it comes to piano, or music in general for that matter. Each learner is different in age, ability and musical interest, so I strongly believe that lessons should reflect this also. My lesson plans will always be tailored to your own specifics.
From sourcing an instrument to taking you through grade 8 exams
Many students of mine enquire about where to find the best instruments for their respective ages and skill levels. Luckily, there are several reputable and well stocked music shops located around Sutton Coldfield that supply fantastic products and services.
The Bop Shop is located at 179 Stratfort Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 3AU. The Bop Shop is an award winning store with a selection of instruments from famous brands, suited for beginners.
Located at Trident Retail Park, 6 Westley Street, Birmingham, B9 4EH PMT Birmingham is an extremely reputable music store chain with one of it's largest outlets found here in Birmingham. Instruments and products for all players are available through this store.
Hobgoblin Music is another excellent store for beginner to mid level players, located at 8 The Priory Queensway, Birmingham, B4 6BS. With a great range of keyboards, there will be something for anyone just starting out or perhaps looking for an upgrade instrument.
I am a friendly and patient teacher with years of experience in nurturing the skills of others. I have studied at some of the finest establishments in Europe and model my own teaching methods on those of some of the greatest experts in the world.

My lessons cost £23 for 30 minutes and £32 for 60 minutes.
My lessons can either take place at my home here in Sutton Coldfield, or at a space of your choosing if you wish to take advantage of my mobile service. I also offer online lessons for those further afield via platforms such as Zoom and Skype.
I teach students any age from 5 years old and upwards. My current students are a combination of young beginners and adult pianists, though it is certainly worth noting that it is never too late to begin learning a musical instrument! I have had great success in teaching senior adults.
You are not required to attend a lesson each week, however I do recommend that students do not leave more than two weeks between each appointment. This is simply to ensure that information is fresh from lesson to lesson, and that your fingers keep progressing at a steady rate.
If you must cancel a lesson, that is completely understandable. Life can throw us surprises at any turn, and sometimes cancellations or unavoidable. I do ask students however, to abide by my 48 hour cancellation policy which simply means that should you need to cancel, you must inform me 48 hours or more prior to the agreed time slot.
