2 reviews for Alex Gaskell

I’ve been having lessons with Alex, on and off, for two years and would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to progress on the guitar, or bass guitar, whether they’re novices or proficient players looking to learn something new.
Alex doesn’t beat you over the head with theory (unless you want him too!) and he is skilled enough to pace his teaching at whatever level you wish.
He’s also thoroughly nice and friendly and makes you feel welcome.
All in all a great place to learn.

Alex is my 3rd teacher and the best. I have found that there are a lot of skilled guitarists out there but not all guitarists can teach. It seems like Alex can play anything, and is up for exploring anything you want to play. He is patient and reliable and lessons are enjoyable. As a bonus, he also takes time in between lessons to create and send you chords, TABS and MP3s related to your lesson. I really have progressed far more with Alex over the last 9 months than with other teachers.

Teacher’s Biography:

I have been playing the guitar for over 28 years and remain every bit as passionate as I did when I first started. Having originally played in local thrash and metal bands as a teenager, over the years I’ve branched out and learned many different musical styles.

To date, I’ve played in a jazz trio, written music for an award-winning documentary film, played in several indie, blues and rock cover bands as well as playing guitar in a touring function band. I am now ‘Johnny Marr’ in the UK’s top tribute band to The Smiths, ‘The Smiths Ltd’ which I also manage.

I have a friendly, outgoing personality and I’m excited to help you learn to play the guitar songs that you love. Covering all genres, from rock to jazz and much more in between, I can help you achieve your aims on guitar through engaging one to one lessons.

Music Qualifications / Achievements:

  • 2017 Mainstage slot at Bestival
  • Played in front of 2500 people at Manchester Academy 3 years in a row
  • Wrote background music for an RTS award-winning Documentary in 2005 (Displaced)

“I’ve been a guitar student with Alex for 10 months, previously I had tried to teach myself for over 20 years and it’s safe to say that I’ve learnt more from Alex in the first 3 months of lessons than I achieved previously on my own. Alex has an excellent teaching method, with a pleasant mix of theory and practice and his skill playing anything with strings is outstanding; from Banjo to Bass to any genre of Guitar.” – John Shaw

“Alex has a unique way of making the complete beginner feel confident. He listens, nurtures, and encourages while keeping true to teaching the fundamentals step by step. A really great guitar teacher!” – Neil Smith

“I have been having bass lessons for a while now with Alex and I have to say I couldn’t ask for a better teacher. I had barely picked up my bass and could barely string 2 bars together when I started, now I’m playing a wide range of music from blues to rock and thoroughly enjoying every minute. He’s very easy to learn from and I’m learning at a rate that I’m very happy with. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone thinking of starting lessons, just ring and you won’t be disappointed.” – Nicki Merrills
