Description

Teacher’s Biography:

Hello! My name is Dan Somers. I am an experienced teacher and pianist across many styles of piano, from classical to jazz and pop. I run Piano Lessons Bristol, a mobile piano teaching service providing lessons to students across the Bristol and Bath areas.

Whilst recently as a performer my style is very much based in contemporary and jazz styles, my ethos is that each pupil should be taught according to their musical taste whilst at the same time, being introduced to and inspired by new music. I take care to adjust my syllabus accordingly, whether that be taking ABRSM grades, music theory or learning by ear.

I have a full CRB check and am happy to teach all ages and abilities; my teaching experience reaches from taking classes in schools, from nursery through to early senior school, running after-school classes, as well as teaching one to one lessons to all ages.

I have taught people who just want to be able to sing along with themselves at the piano, taken pupils through classical grades (for which I have 100% pass rate), taught jazz and improvisation and helped producers use keyboards for electronic music production amongst many other things. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions about your own learning.

Music Qualifications / Achievements:

After studying classical piano growing up and achieving all of my grades, I studied at the London Centre of Contemporary Music and graduated with a BMus (Hons) in Music Performance and Production. After this, I stayed in London playing in many musical projects and doing session work before travelling the world with Princess Cruises for 2 years as the house band pianist.

Testimonials:

“Dan has proved himself to be a very popular teacher both with his students and with the parents. His style is such that he engenders confidence in his student’s ability to learn new pieces of work and compose their own pieces. I’m often complimented by parents on both the uniqueness of the programme, in terms of its focus on providing music lessons for low-income families and on the ‘greatness’ of the teachers – none more so than Dan.” – Medg Sullivan, programme manager, Brixton Wings

“Over the last four years, Dan has successfully prepared the children for their grades while teaching them to love playing piano music of all sorts, from classical to jazz and pop. They always look forward to their lessons, especially the improvisation session at the end.” – Claire Ronay, Bath
