Teacher's Biography:

I'm a professional jazz singer and voice artist who has been living and working in Bristol for the last 6 years. I run and front Paper Moon – a swing quintet designed for swing dancers and guest sing in several other jazz ensembles in and around the South West.
As a teacher, I work with both adults and children and conduct myself with enthusiasm, patience and a sense of fun. Music is a joyful thing to produce, so I believe that however hard you work, it should always be enjoyable and uplifting.

Teaching adults: I specialise in jazz phrasing, rhythm, harmony and improvisation. I also focus in on stagecraft and the emotional delivery of a song and easily adapt my styling to other genres of music such as pop, soul, folk and musical theatre. Above all, vocal health and sustainable singing are key and I work with my students to produce their own unique sound that will carry them through their lives without uncomfort or strain.

Teaching children: I am passionate about providing a platform for children to be as creative as they can. Along with the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival, I run annual interactive music performances in primary schools in the Bristol area aiming to inspire as many children as I can to pick up an instrument and enjoy making music together. As a one-to-one teacher, I focus on the fundamentals of singing technique, fun warm-ups, performance confidence, vocal delivery and the joy of singing songs.

Music Qualifications / Achievements:

  • BA (Hons) Performing Arts 2:1. University of Winchester
  • MA Jazz 2013 (the first year completed, second year deferred). Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama
  • Music Theory Grade 5 Royal Academy, London
  • Classical Voice Grade 5 Trinity College, London
  • Classical Flute Grade 6 Trinity College, London

Testimonials:

"Lucy is fantastic! Before I went to my first lesson I was very much a novice and had always been
very nervous about singing. Lucy made me feel so at ease and her enthusiasm was so infectious that I enjoyed every moment. She has made me feel more confident of my abilities, so I'm really enjoying practising and I leave her lessons on such a high. Lucy is an honest, patient and encouraging tutor with a wealth of professional knowledge. I very much recommend her!" - Caroline T February, 2018

"Lucy has given thought to how to help me and is positive and encouraging. The warm-ups are
proving useful and I’m enjoying being able to work on some of my favourite songs. Lucy’s advice is
clear and easy to follow. I appreciate being taught by someone who is knowledgeable and who is
performing regularly." - Miranda H January, 2018
