My name is Maria Lopes, I was born and raised in Portugal and throughout my life I have moved between Portugal and the United Kingdom. I began playing the piano at 8 years old by having private tuitions in Leeds. In 2007 I returned to Portugal where I enrolled in the Conservatoire in my hometown, Castelo Branco. Throughout the years in Portugal, I have had lessons with many renown pianists like Miguel Henriques, Fausto Neves, Joao Vasco de Almeida and many more. In these lessons, these pianists demonstrated ways that helped me improve how I play the piano and also how I teach. I seek to maintain the interest of my students for the piano by adapting the teaching plan to their personality and by procuring inventive yet effective ways to maximise their intake and understanding of information.
I seek to maximise my skills not only through solo performances or teaching but also by playing with other musicians. I have experienced the life as an orchestra pianist during my years as the designated one in successful groups like Permallets and the Art&Cult Orchestra.
I am currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Richard McMahon and I intend to pass on my knowledge in the best way to anyone who wants to learn music. I have experience in teaching children as young as 4 years old up to any age adults. I am very passionate about teaching and I will always try to give the best education to all my pupils.
