Teacher's Biography:

I offer one-to-one lessons to children and adults from complete beginner to post-Grade 8 level for all brass instruments and music theory. Whether you want to progress through the grades or just learn for enjoyment, I can help you build a solid technical foundation on your instrument, while having lots of fun at the same time.

Alongside my brass instrument tuition, I am a freelance trombonist living in London and am a recent graduate of the Royal College of Music. I have had a lot of experience in a wide variety of genres, including playing in orchestras, operas, musicals, big bands, wind bands, brass bands, function bands, ska bands, brass quintets, and trombone quartets, as well as performing as a soloist with several orchestras and doing session work in studios. Capitalising on these experiences I can help you to develop your playing ability whether you a beginner or more advanced player.

Testimonials:

"Matt has been teaching William for a year, in that time we have seen William really progress in all aspects of the trumpet and pass his grade 3 exam with merit. Matt is patient, kind, fair and firm in his teaching style. He is flexible in his approach and accommodating. Matt himself is an excellent musician with tonnes of enthusiasm that he uses with great effect to inspire William." – Natalie, parent

"Matt is a great teacher with a fantastic sense of humour. When I went to see Matt in concert it inspired me to want to play as part of a group." – William, aged 10

"Matthew is a delightful tutor - enthusiastic and knowledgeable -who seems to be a natural teacher. Matthew patiently and thoughtfully tailors my lessons so that they match my needs and interests. He somehow achieves a balance of humour and firm discipline and has helped me – a novice brass player – to achieve exam success. Even more important for me, Matthew’s own infectious love of his craft has encouraged and nurtured in me a sense of fun and enjoyment in playing my instrument." - Denise B

Matt is a wonderful trombone teacher. He is very patient and kind. My daughter looks forwards to her lessons with Matt every week and is taking her second exam with him now. Matt has been teaching my daughter for a couple of years, so she has gone from not playing the trombone at all, to taking her grade two and joining the orchestra at school.

Matt has taught Tom at the London College of Music. Matt’s passion and discipline in music is infectious. His ability to engage with Tom and his calm, small step detailed approach in his music teaching have helped Tom to consolidate many areas of his brass learning. During his teaching, Tom has gained a place to study at Trinity Laban Junior School. With much appreciation, Tom says “Matt is a very good teacher.
