6 New Releases Coming In 2018

Some highly anticipated and some brand-new acts you should keep your eyes peeled for this year!

1. The 1975

Let’s get a couple of big names in first… The 1975 are my guilty pleasure… although I think it’s cool to like them now, right? There first album always struck me as a 14 year old girls favourite band, BUT their ridiculously, hipster titled second album ‘I LIKE IT WHEN YOU SLEEP, FOR YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL YET SOME UNAWARE OF IT’ changed my opinion. So much so, that I would now call them one of my favourite bands. Shocking right?

Well with that in my mind, the fact that singer Matt Healy said in an interview that he wanted their next album to be their Ok Computer, I for one am very excited to hear it! The 1975’s third studio album is rumoured to be released in April this year and be called ‘Music For Cars’.

2. Arctic Monkeys

The Follow up to Arctic Monkeys last effort ‘AM’ has been highly anticipated ever since the beginning of last year, and with Arctic Monkeys now announcing the first few tour dates of 2018, a new album is all but confirmed!

‘AM’ was released almost three and a half years ago now, it seems mad to think given that I still haven’t taken it out of my car. It was very well received with great reviews across the board; from music critics and fans alike (although there’s always that one guy who only likes When The Sun Goes Down, and will sit there moping the whole way through there set until they play old stuff).

Following AM will certainly be difficult…

3. Gid Sedgwick

Gid Sedgwick is a new artist who has demonstrated perfectly how you can be a one man band; write, record and produce all your own music in your room and then get picked up by BBC Introducing and some big media – see his recent premiere for his new single Ochos here – http://www.clashmusic.com/gid-sedgwick

Gid has more singles and an album coming this year, keep your eye out for him!

4. Rae Morris

Now.. there is a lot of bands bringing out albums, I could have mentioned another band here BUT, I saw Rae Morris sing with Bombay Bicycle Club at Latitude festival a few years ago now and she blew me away. She has a beautifully husky and soft voice that melts you and unlike her contemporaries she makes interesting music with an edge (think Kate Bush/ Christine and the Queens)

Her new album ‘Someone Out There’ is released Feb 2nd, I really hope she delivers on her potential!

5. Paddy James

Up and coming act, Paddy James (http://www.paddyjames.com/) has previously played support slots with Ed Sheeran and has had his music in the top 5 of the iTunes Singer Songwriter chart. Surely he’s set for success this year?

His new single ‘Perfectly Flawed’ is set for release in March. He’s a real talent with a lot of potential to make beautiful music. Definitely worth following!

6. Amethysts

Right… Don’t judge, this is actually a shameless self plug… My band ‘Amethysts’ (https://www.weareamethysts.co.uk/about) are releasing a new single at the beginning of February, I will say no more.
