The Gesualdo Six
We are delighted to report that The Gesualdo Six are performing in Winchester Concert at Holy Trinity Church, Winchester on Friday 6 April 2018 at 7:30pm. Performing beautiful unaccompanied choral music from the Renaissance to the present day, the programme will showcase a varied repertoire, including music from our debut album, English Motets, released on Hyperion Records this April.
The concert, which forms part of their Spring 2018 tour that sees them travel to London, Hay-on-Wye, Clodock, Bristol, Colyton and Framlingham, will provide you with the opportunity to “revel in the gorgeous sounds [&] the spellbinding music” (John Rutter) of The Gesualdo Six first-hand. They are a vocal consort that is comprised of some of the UK’s finest young consort singers, beautifully blending a more modern repertoire with early music that so inspired the group at its inception – as the John Rutter notes they offer up “programmes with something for everyone”.
Directed by Owain Park, a prize-winning Fellow of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO), and a former Senior Organ Scholar at Wells Cathedral and Trinity College Cambridge, The Gesualdo Six has grown in reputation since its formation in 2014. Indeed, the consort has performed across Europe at multiple festivals, as well as extensively nationally, thrilling audiences with their ability to “shift[…] impeccably from Renaissance polyphony to twenty-first-century music.” (Seen and Heard International). Alongside these performances, the consort has been undertaking a lot of educational work, visiting schools for workshops, with the ultimate aim of commissioning of unique pieces to be sung by children alongside The Gesualdo Six in concert.
Tickets for the upcoming concert in Winchester are just £12 (or £5 for students); with The Gesualdo Six’s website having further information about how to purchase tickets: thegesualdosix.co.uk/spring-tour-2018. There is no doubt this is going to be a tremendous performance and we warmly recommend students across all musical instruments and genres to consider attending to experience how a vocal consort can convey such emotion through music & overlay their vocal melodies to create a sound that feels far larger than six individuals singing. One not to miss!
