I have been receiving drum tuition from Ed for the past 18 months and have really enjoyed my journey into learning this instrument. I am a ‘self taught’ drummer of a certain age, and decided after 35 years that I would get someone to teach me how to play properly.
I know Ed is an excellent teacher for the following reasons:
Ed is a very knowledgeable, very able musician. He demonstrates that he is dedicated to constantly improving and developing his own musicianship and this is reflected in his continued striving for excellence of me, his pupil. He has a great interest in the learning opportunities offered through different drumming techniques and patterns, and of the importance of a methodical approach to practice.
Through Ed’ s teaching, I have gained the ability to sight-read drum music -something I had convinced myself many years ago that I would never be able to do. He has also taught me to think about drumming in a new way, so that I can enjoy the drums as a melodic instrument, not just as a producer of noise. Incredibly, having started drum lessons with no grades at all, my next objective may well be grade 6!
Ed is most importantly, a kind and patient teacher, giving direction where its needed and praise where its due. He is approachable, and any queries are enthusiastically received and responded to.
In summary, I do feel like I am being taught the drums properly, with excellence, by someone who has enabled me to improve my drumming and to have a lot of fun learning how!
