Working with Ms. McGinnis was such an extraordinary experience for our son. While he had sung chorale music for a few years, he hadn’t had the chance to focus specifically on developing his own “instrument,” so to speak, and to sing across a wider repertoire of vocal works. Ian had met Ms. McGinnis while rehearsing for musicals at high school. We also had the chance to meet parents of her other students who emphasized that she brought out the best in their children. Ms. McGinnis not only helped our son develop his performance and instrument, she also gave him the chance to explore all sorts of music. It was exciting for us to see him perform, both in the school musicals and recitals. It is clearly a joy to see your son interpreting some of the most beautiful music ever written.

Jenni has been a wonderful instructor for my sensitive 8-year-old. We have tried lots of different music lessons but my daughter doesn’t do well in a group and loses interest quickly so that every lesson became a fight. Jenni has changed all of that! She offers private lessons that are fun and 100% positive. My daughter always leaves with a big smile saying “great lesson” which is wonderful. Jenni has steered her toward music that suits her personality and is age appropriate so I actually enjoy listening to her practice. My daughter now practices regularly without being reminded, has improved noticeably, and has renewed her interest in music. What more can a mother ask?

In middle school, I really didn’t have very much direction and I was afraid of going to high school. To make friends, I decided to go out for one of the high school’s audition choirs, and though I didn’t make it into the elite choir, I made the women’s choir. I was happy, but I was afraid to sing out even in front of the other girls in the choir. I didn’t have any confidence in my voice and most of them knew how to read music and sight-sing. I didn’t. I started taking lessons with Ms. Jenni in the fall of my freshman year in the hopes of catching up with the other girls and eventually auditioning into the elite choir before my senior year.
That was three years ago. I now read music and sight sing and have much more confidence in my voice. I made the elite choir at my school in the spring of my sophomore year– and in my junior year we performed at the White House! Jenni has encouraged me to participate in competitions and summer music programs that have helped me grow even more. I am seriously considering majoring in music in college after I graduate in 2014.
Jenni has been such a wonderful teacher. She really “gets me” and her encouragement has helped me find my passion. She’s always positive and helpful and treats each student like they are her only one. I just love her and I will miss her when I go to college–because without her I really don’t know where I would have ended up.
